Door Check Strap Noise

Both door straps sound like a demon of the apocalypse when they go over their 'bump' towards fully open. Grease didn't help.
Is there any trick to get them to quiet down or is that just how the mechanism is?

I pulled the assemblies out & wedged them open a bit so they weren’t so tight.
Also, if you have a mototool, put a little bevel on the back edge of the metal loop that the door check goes through. It’s not easy to do, but one of my loops was broken off so I was able to do it out of the car before installing it.
Peace,
Pat

The 'pop' is how you know not to open them further...

so they are not intended to go past the pop? seems weird? I figured that was to hold it open.

Yes, it is supposed to go past the pop to hold the door open. Springing the side pieces on the checks make it easier for them to go past the part in the body. If you pull the kick panel you can reach or possible see the back side of the door checks. The rubber block on the check should hit the body.
These things are "old school" in their design & are generally noisy.
Peace,
Pat

Yes, stop just past the 'pop'.

Yes, stop just past the 'pop'.
I figured, I am just trying to quiet down the pop a bit.

You can take them off and let them go too far and dent the crap out of your side trim like some dummy did on my car.

Or if it rips away from the door, as many have done, you can put a nice crease in your fender as well. Like this dummy did to mine years ago!
