I'm a Rookie-Bozo looking for some help here. How do I remove the little tie rod I believe to be called a "dogbone" from my carburetor linkage? I have a 2000 with Solex carbs if that matters. The dogbone is fixed length and has plastic sockets. I'm enclosing a picture of my partially disassembled engine.

Use a flat blade screwdriver between the linkage and plastic to lever the plastic end from the metal ball.
Gently does it.

I feared it would be something along those lines. And me with 52 year old plastic. Well, I'll give it a go. The good news, I suppose, is that there seem to be other posts involving replacement dogbones. Thanks for the help.

I've never had one break and mine have been on and off a billion times in 35 years. A little WD40 won't hurt, just ease one side off with a screw driver and you're good. Let us know if you need any help sorting out those carbs etc. There are NO stupid questions here and everyone is happy to help another family member! Several of us have messed with them or their like over the years, and we have a couple resident experts like Dave Primo to call upon as needed for parts and insight.

I've always used a thin open end wrench to pry it off. Never damaged a dog bone yet.
