Had to replace a blown head gasket in my 1970 1600. Got the head back on and the rods in but now need to reinstall the rocker shaft. Is there a step by step anywhere? I searched google, the tech wiki and the forum but couldn’t find it.
Thanks

Nothing on this? My concern is the valve springs. I assume I can’t just bolt the rocker shaft back on. Do I need to compress springs? Anything I need to do to line up the push rods? Any help would be appreciated.

You can just reinstall it and torque it down. You should put the push rods back in the same position you removed them as they wear differently depending on where they were. You do not need to compress the springs as they are already compressed to install them on the head. You then need to check the valve clearances hot and cold again to make sure there is enough clearance.

If you want, you can completely loosen the adjustors, bolt it down, then adjust the valves.

Did you replace the valve seals ?
Clean the carbon of the valve head & check the valves seal , only tiny bubbles when blow back
Now's a good time
