My door was finished with the vinyl wrapped around the sheet metal, plus the weatherstrip going over the top of that.

I'm missing one cap, and the one I have wouldn't really fit well over the thicker vinyl/weatherstrip anyway.

My thought has been to get something off Amazon, a rubber corner protector and trim it down, that can cover the vinyl/weatherstrip and keep water from getting down.

Figured I would ask here in case anyone else figured out a neat solution that looks somewhat inconspicuous before I go full DIY.

On my 67.5 with extra foam behind the door panels, I stripped off the vinyl fromthe door top finishers , then got them semi matte powder coated.

You mean the actual door?

I'm referring to these that cap off the lip on the body:

They don't go over the weatherstrip, it stops at the caps.

I know that's the stock way, I am just thinking there may be a cheaper DIY option that would look good. Mine is sandwiched with vinyl like this:



So I think it might be goofy looking to just cut it down and have the cap above it.

Plus, $40 for two little pieces of rubber offends my sensibilities even though I know it's not cheap to get custom parts designed and made.

On my car I added a bit of foam inside the round weatherstrip & squeezed in some 3M black weatherstrip & gasket adhesive. I then squeezed the open end closed so water won't get in. It is cut off right where it meets up with the corner cap that you show.

Always felt the OEM "caps" looked off.

Sora has a tidy way of covering that sharp edge, imho:

You could also trim the sheetmetal to an angle to reduce the need.

That looks nice Alvin. Mine has a shorter 'lip' so I'm not sure I could get a nice swoop.

To get a good swoop you might have to "dart" the inner side (the stiffened one) to allow it to hinge freely.
I got one side to adhere, and it has stayed, second side fought me, over and over.
I like Alvin's solution, that never occurred to me...... (never said I was Bright! just quick in the corners!)

Ferg, not my solution, credit goes to PO Michael Carion. I always thought it was a simple, clean way of covering. It eliminates those pesky "caps" that I never had luck with either because they perpetually fell off or cracked.

I ended up making my own. Came out pretty decent and will keep gunk from getting down there.
