I am rebuilding the NIKKI 2D-30C3 carb from my 1962 SPL-212. I can't figure out how to remove the "69 Assy-Plunger, Pump" to access the "69 Assy-Valve, Power Jet" underneath it. Has anyone here rebuilt one of these? Do you know how to do this?

I tried pressing down the washer on the top while holding the stem up and pulling the pin from the stem in the photo, but it felt like if I pulled the pin all the way out, it would all spring apart and I'd never get it back together again. And I can't figure out what is holding it all in. I can press down the stem against a spring, but when I release it it stops quite solidly against something. Any Ideas?

I’ve never seen this particular carb but recall on similar vintage American carbs that there was a rubber ring that held the assembly in place try pulling up on the shaft gently & see if anything moves. If you have a rebuild kit you might be able to get some information by looking @ the kits pieces to see if there are any parts that are not accounted for.

Peace,
Pat

JD,
Look on the 320 truck facebook page.
The Datsun 62-65 320 trucks use the same carb and E1 motor.

Lots of current info on the carb and accelerator pump.
A replacement pump gasket has been found.
Carb rebuild kits are no longer available but the only part that wears out is the accelerator pump cup gasket,
There is nothing holding the pump in the body. Just pull it out.

Ted.

Thank you, Ted. I pulled really hard and out it came. The leather looked pretty dirty. I later figured out that the "dirt" was particles of aluminum and aluminum oxide as evidenced by the pits left behind when I examined the bore under a microscope. I was able to scrape the Al bits off the leather with a knife blade and pick some of the larger chunks of Al out under the microscope making the leather nice and serviceable again. I sanded and polished the bore smooth with 320, 600 then 1000 grit. I oiled the leather and it went back together really nicely and pumps very well now.

Thank you for pointing out the 320 Truck page. Definitely a useful resource going forward.

Best. -JD
