Let's talk ignition switches

I'm having keys made on my 68 2000,and found out about the "L" key, and the valet key. My key style is more "rounded rectangular", than a friend's, whose is round, "hanging down" on bottom side. There has been discussion between us, as to which ignition came in what cars. My switch has key number visible on the face of the switch, his do not. His key is completely different than mine. I've had 3 different 68 switches in my hand, and had keys made for all of them. All the same style. He has several 68 cars, and all are the same switch style, with no key number, and a more rounded over switch style. I'm curious as to what switches came in what cars, time wise. Pat

Simply, When did they stop putting the key code on the switch? I think there must be some breakdown, as far as vin# or time line. Pat

Thanks, Joe! Now to find a source for both styles' long key blanks. Pat

Hang in there with Rallye...You just may hit the jackpot. I know what you're implying but they had/found two numbered keys for me. Emphasis on found, -which may take some time...but I was delighted they had them...Thanks Dann and crew..!
