I got my engine in with the starter attached.
At the time I still had the triangular brace on the body preventing installation/removal once the engine was in the car.

Never had to remove the starter - have pulled engines 5 times (so far) - So a 1 (easy)

Have you read and reread the engine removal tech wiki?

I guess I'm following a different guide, I'm new at this and just taking it in and trying to absorb it all in.
Really appreciate everyone's help here.
Back to the books! Thanks everyone

Suggest you make a check list of all things that had to be done to pull the engine. Then run down the list to be sure you have them all...Cables, wires, fuel, etc. The one thing I typically forget is the gear shifter. Then I wonder what is holding the engine back as I try to lift it out...Doh! It takes about of 15 minutes of cursing before I come to my senses.

I've been taking it all really slow and taking a lot of pictures, I'm on the exhaust manifold now. Going to be ALOT of fun :/

For what it's worth, when I pulled my engine this past winter I left the intake, exhaust, carbs and starter on the engine.

I shot this about a month ago. Everything but the carbs was still attached.

You make it look so easy! I expend a little less physical effort using my forklift but I do get a few paint scrapes. Thanks!

I went to the TechWiki, printed out the engine removal steps, taped them to the windshield and crossed them off.
I also wrote down the wrench size required for each, to try and save on the 'get back up off the floor to swap wrenches" repetition, but since I have not completed the re-install, have not finished the re-write yet.
I'll be forwarding on to Steve when completed, in case he is interested in updating the Wiki.
The throttle cross-shaft had to come out in my case, (2L with headers) though some insist it is not required. It came out whole with carbs and header attached.

This would be great resource! Good idea on the wrench sizes.
