HI all, looking to paint my shift plate on a 67 1/2 , anyone know if flat black or textured black would match it. Anyone have ideas? Thanks Joe

I would get it powder coated. That is what I did with mine. The process usually includes media blasting, and they have textured options.

Hi Joe,
In my limited experience, the black wrinkle powder coat looks pretty close to original. I asked them to do the texture as light as possible. They should have sample plates to show you.
I powder coated my shifter plates when I did my dash face, so they will match regardless.
One thought would be to take a piece of your dash in to match... the glove box door???
These photo shows what it looked like when I first got the car... the super close ups kind of show the texture,
and where the knob was removed it definitely shows that it was originally jet black before fading.
This photo shows 4 speed plate on left and 5 speed plate on the right. Both newly powder coated black wrinkle finish.
The masking is the critical part. I had to clean mine up a little after the fact with a plastic non-marring razor blade.
And here is a poor close up of the dash with new dash texture.
This shows pretty much where I currently am... I'm still working on the brightwork, but I'm happy with the black.
Hope that helps.
Good luck,
Peter
