Thanks to Dan (Datsun65) for helping me find this awesome time-capsule 69 2000.

I just went and picked her up today and what a cool find! This car was originally purchased right here in the Houston area at Gulfway Datsun in 1969 and she even came with the original title. The car threw part of the fan into the radiator in 1979 and was parked indoors with 43,000 miles. Based on the paperwork that came in the glovebox it looks like she was auto-crossed here in Clear Lake TX and had a very enthusiastic first owner. The car has an Addco rear sway bar if that says anything about it :-) I'm looking forward to a great project with my boys getting her running and driving - more info to follow.

Cheers
James

Very excited for James and his project find. An incredible time capsule of an era bygone. The car was bought in the summer of '69 and by the fall of '69 the original owner was already participating in local fun runs. Even has a dash plaque from 1969!

A really great project for James and his boys.

Congrats.

Dan

“Cyclops” looks like a very solid project, plus it has my favorite wheels.

That lamp is going to be the first thing to go!

More photos to follow once I start getting her cleaned up.

Ahh come on James, leave the light, it’s the cars defining feature. Well, maybe next to the painted on bra :smt003

Great that you are taking on another Roadster James, I am sure this one will get top notch treatment like your previous projects. It's great that it'll be a family project too.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments guys. I think one of the coolest things about this car is that it was parked in 1979 but before that it looks like it had a VERY enthusiastic owner. So far the sins of the PO are minimal! (cyclops not permitting). Here are some cool history photos of the car showing that there was a Datsun dealer in the Clear Lake TX area called Gulfway Datsun. Also - you can see what a 1979 TX license plate looks like, etc.

Regarding the rattlecan black "bra" and livery I am hoping that I can get that stripped off and back to original 666 silver. Fingers crossed!

You can see the "plaque" on the dash that Dan is talking about - it's an autocross club recognition. And about the dash. That's not a cap - it's a perfectly preserved un-cracked 1969 dash!

Enjoy!
James

Lots of cleaning today with the boys. It's great when we can get some instant gratification - like turning a dirty old car into a clean cool old car :-)

This car is SO complete. Down to the vinyl matt in the trunk and the vinyl cover for the spare. And an un-cracked dash in a 69 - first time I've seen that!

Cheers
James
