Oregon Coast 1969 2000

Hello,

Don't have much time for cars it seems these days but couldn't help myself in picking up a Datsun 2000 September 2019. Had driven a 1600 in the past that was in pristine condition and it was such a blast. Purchased from Original Owner out of Portland, originally purchased at dealer in Salem. Was a commuter car with many miles, at least one engine rebuild and appears to be a paint job with very minimal rust currently hiding under the wheel wells. Have hardtop and new soft top.

So far thanks to your Wiki I have gotten it close to running, plugged a tire, new battery, then realized needed new brake master cylinder (240Z) then new rear brakes and shoes (I believe from a 210??), a brake switch, then onto Carbs which was a agonizing ordeal but had paltech rebuild (turns out one of the carbs was off a 240Z and not original to the car), new exhaust manifold (old one had been rewelded multiple times), new motor mounts, shorter starter, and cut off old exhaust that had a cherry bomb on and put on a turbo to quiet it down a bit. Still couldn't get it to run worth a crap so adjusted valves, checked compression, fuel pressure, finally came to the conclusion the distributor has essentially worn out. Was going to replace last fall but at the same time water pump started to weep past seal and not being able to find one for less than the price of my commuter Honda I gave up and stuck it in storage until weather improved.

Will need lower ball joints (cool to see the group came together to have more made) as well as new suspension in the near future.

Will be ordering East Coast Roadster EI Distributor shortly.

But can anyone help me find a decent way or place for a water pump. I found one retailer (appears to be just north here in Newport) that had some available but just can't fathom almost 400 for a water pump. Links to replacing the seals from mcmaster carr did not lead me to the right place.

I'll try to submit a photo or two here shortly.

Consider having it rebuilt locally.

If you can’t get it rebuilt locally some vendors have them for less.

This shop has had recommendations on this board for water pump rebuilding and there are in Oregon! (Still 170 miles away though)

$400 sounds high.
One of the vendors here has one for a bit less and it has a stainless steel backing plate.

By the way, the description of your car reminds me of a cartoon sign for a lost dog that I remember reading once.
It went something like:

"Lost dog. Missing one leg, tail was cut off, left eye gone, scar on right ear. Answers to 'Lucky'".

Someone I believe mentioned The Dutchman's price, seems to me $165 or there about?

Edit: I ran a quick search and you mentioned this time last year a $130 quote for a U20 pump, damn good price IMO!

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I've found a few rebuilt options now and will reach out to those rebuilders you mentioned. I tried to find a place through the parts suppliers here to rebuild but they wouldn't rebuild this particular waterpump for some reason.

I need to find a way to shrink my photos. All to large to submit. Will do here soon.
