Today's barnfind.

Post by Santacaferacer »

Today's barnfind adventure. It was a beautiful day to get out of the house.

A guy tells me he's got a roadster just like mine on his property 80 miles "up north" from where we live. He thought it was a 1966 and only good as a parts car. So I'm thinking to myself, well, having an extra parts car wouldnt be too bad. However, when we get to his property, it turns out to be a tall windshield 1969 1600. Many parts and other bits won't be useful for my 67.5.

It's been sitting for there for almost 20 years. Not sure I need another project but I can probaby get this one for well under $1000 as he hinted that I could. Clear title too.

A bit beat up but no rust-through on the body anywhere, even the floors are solid. Not sure if it turns over. Engine bay was unmolested.
Otherwise, the the interior has the usual disentegrating dashpad and wrong seats....I think. A thin layer of bondo right rear center panel from hitting something. Inside the trunk it appears as mostly just a wrinkle, not a deep dent.

I don't need another project but these don't turn up in my backyard very often. And, it seems too solid to part out. I also don't want to leave it there to further deteriorate or have it end up in the wrong hands. Got to preserve these and where it is now is a community of ranchers that certainy don't know what it is.

What would you do? Parts car? Restore? Even bother with it?

Check out the cool van too.

I don't see the side markers of a 69.
At the least, enter it in the registry

If there's no rust, it sure looks complete. Well worth a $1000 for parts, parting is probably better than it sitting there another 20 years.

It looks a lot nicer than my car, I wish I had that much of a head start.

I offered $600 and was accepted.
When I get it to my house I’ll assess it’s overall condition carefully, add it to the registry, and then decide what to do.
All the side trim is there and fairly nice so that at least was worth the price.
The guy was super cool and allowed me some time to arrange getting it.

Hopefully you have some inside storage for it.
Hard to go wrong at that price. Pour some ATF in the spark plug holes, drain the tank, and get to it when you can.

Seems to be a 1968 titled as a 69. License light on the bumper. Thus the missing side markers too.

Looks like a very good starter for someone if you don't need the project. I'm sure there would be a few takers for it....

Interior is filthy and not sure about the seats if they are correct.
Rest is straight and solid.

Looks pretty solid. Sears are correct, interior looks stock including soft top. What's the engine and trunk like?

Trunk is solid and clean, no rust. Engine bay the same, albeit a bit dusty. I think it’s worthwhile bringing her back to life.

Great find! Congratulations are in order!

Seats look like they are red cloth? Hard to tell through the dust :) . Original are either red or black vinyl with a small diamond like pattern.

Any idea why it was parked ?

Yes, red cloth. That’s why I wan not sure of originality.
According to owner it ran when parked. He was just “done” using it having moved onto other vehicles. Never sold anything so it did not occur to him to get rid of.
