New Soft top for 68 from EZon

Post by Bigtaku »

Hey 311 peeps, I purchased my 68 Roadster stayfast soft top from Cabrio World in 2018. I didn't try to put it on until recently and it didn't fit. They have a three month return policy, BUT they are making things good for me. I will be sending them back their top with a FedX slip that was mailed to me in the next few days. They also want my old top that was on the car when I purchased it to take measurements and will return both a new top and my old one after figuring what I need. Back in 2018 they didn't ask enough questions on what car you are putting the top on. They say that now they have three questions about our cars. Didn't say what they were but that's okay because they are working with me on this going on 4 years later. I will post pictures when my new top arrives. All I had to do was show them a few pictures of my Mothra and they got right on it.

A bunch of the credit goes to Jeff at Cabrio World. EZon did all the talking to them, and Cabrio World to me. I am extremely happy with both at the moment but the fat lady hasn't sung yet.

It's nice when a company steps up, even if it's not totally their fault... it shows that YOU matter, and that goes a very long ways in building a good reputation and a long business life.

Dude! How did you get that horse in the back of your car?!

Also good to know that they are reputable, I should be looking for a top in the next year or so!

Cheers

Is the Stayfast material canvas? How do you like it? I'm going to be ordering a top soon and am not sure if I should stick with vinyl or go canvas.
Sounds like Cabrio World might be a place to look at if they're that easy to work with.

Thanks,
Matt

$301 for an early 1600 in pinpoint is attractive. No mention if it's Robbins / Haartz material. They seem to be undercutting other distributors by about $50+ whom do mention Robbins vinyl. The sample car they show for an early 1600 is actually a 1970. But they use that as the sample car for all years. Also for an early 1600 they mention the S/N must be SPL311-10001 through SPL311-17000.. That start number is well into the 1967 model year and leaves out my 1967 S/N 9002 and all previous 1600's. So that is obviously wrong.

I just received the new cut top. They used my old vinyl top to measure this one so I am hoping for a great fit. I received a call from the manufacturer EZon Tops a few days ago, he told me they had three patterns before I ordered my top for the 68 - 70 cars and my old vinyl top was none of those... so now they have four. They are looking forward to finding out how my top will fit and so am I. I have an appointment to have it installed on the 10th of May. Wish me luck

Thanks,
I had the same material on my BMW Z3 and it was very good quality. Let me get the bugs out of there pattern issues before you buy if you have a tall windshield.

Thanks,
If you don’t want to take a chance on some “we cover everything“ supplier getting it right just go to one of our experienced vendors. Here is a couple of pictures of the top I got from Stan at fairladyparts.com at a very competitive price.
He has a few of them made each year, so availability may be spotty. Dean sells a lot of tops too and others in the “vendors list” may as well.
The point is that these guys specialize in roadster parts and you can be assured of a proper fit.
Of course proper fit depends on proper installation and a body that is not tweaked. By the way I followed the instructions in the tech wiki and was very happy with the results.

Mike M, you grazed past an important point. A lot of the generic vendors have information that is completely wrong. A top doesn't fit from 67-69 - two different sizes are involved there. Sometimes ordering from the cheap guy with the crappy info gets you a top that is wrong for your car. Hopefully Bigtaku will get made whole on the top that he bought.

That is why I mentioned that they specialize in roadsters, but you’re right I should of mentioned the differences, often from one year to another on high windshield models. The vendors in our list know the nuances of the various models pertaining to many parts and deserve a little extra for their knowledge and experience.

I agree with all the posts here, the point I made in my original post was they honored my warranty even though it was almost four years ago. If I could turn back time I would have done several things differently with my build. I may get a free new top from them when this is all said and done because they still have my vinyl top they used as a pattern. EZon and Cabrio World may not be one of our trusted vendors but they are a good group of people.

EZon and Cabrio World are stepping up, and that is great. It is a bummer that you are the test mule for this, but kudos for the positive outlook in getting this resolved Bigtaku.

I agree with Sid. I wasn’t trying to chastise you for dealing with those companies. I was basically giving advice to “rutty” who stated he would soon be in the market for a new top. Kudos to EZon and Cabrio World for stepping up and doing the right thing.
