Does anyone know how to fix it without replacing it with the newer style?

Ahh yes, I get your drift. 
Dunno as I have never done it personally. Give Mike Young a call and I am sure he will give you some tips on how to go about it. On the vendors page. Busy as hell myself. I don't know about anyone else but this year flew by at supersonic speed. 
Good luck and let us know what you find out. --or better yet-maybe someone else will share their solution.

Can the old style be welded to prevent slipping?
