On the recommendation of others on this forum, I chose to replace the headlight wiring on my 69 SPL311 with the Victoria British loom. That went swimmingly, and all according to Hoyle. But me, being who I am, decided I would also replace the 50 yr old stock headlight relay with a a new 5 PIN number so it would all be new. That was a good plan, but so far, it hasn’t worked as intended. I cannot get the headlights to come on, and the running lights (side markers, taillights, etc) work, but eventually pop the fuse. Piglet needs to be able to see in the dark!
Can someone enlighten me as to the proper wiring configuration to replace the stock 6 pin relay with a new 5 pin fuse. (And yes, I realize that it was a bridge too far, but I had to try). Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Try this. On the two relay setup it says use 12g, I would use 10g even though for that short length 12g will be fine. Also the two red/yellow wires are spliced together right after they enter the harness from the stock relay. So with a 5 pin relay it doesn't matter which red/yellow wire in the socket you hook to.

The OEM relay is usually as follows: -


The M, D, B, S tags referring to Main, Drive, Battery and Switch wires.


The equivalent modern relay is as follows: -


Connect pin 86 to pin 30.
Pin 87 is for Main, 87a for Drive, 86 & 30 for Battery and 85 for Switch functions.

The 69 set up is not the same as the early cars so has to be wired a little different. I am not a fan of the 69 wiring for headlights, there's close to 50 feet of wires to run them.
