2000 Later-style cast iron exhaust manifold

Post by Conner »

My car came with an aftermarket header. I'm assuming this is because the original cast iron manifold cracked at some point. From my reading the OEM manifolds flowed pretty well.
Does anyone still run the original OEM-style cast iron manifolds on their U20 or have they all disintegrated by now?

my dad said the 2 roadsters he has had all had headers b/c cracking..... and the original owner of my car put a header on mine b/c it was cracked. Before we found out my car had a header my dad said i will most likely have to buy a header b/c my manifold will be cracked... I guess that sorta tells you something.

I've got a header on my '69 2000. The story I hear is that many people neglected to reconnect the lower mount of the stock mainfold. This causes it to crack due to engine vibration.

I never really gave it much thought before this, but I'd almost say all Nissan manifolds are prone to cracking. Almost every manifold I've taken off an L20B, Z20E, or Z22E had a crack in it somewhere. The L16 manifolds seem to be immune though...

Yeah I also noticed the manifold on our 300zx project also has it cracked! Not leaking but is cracked from the outside.
