Your 1967 certainly should have had the bar. Do you have centered threaded holes at the top and bottom of
your windshield frame?
Backside?, I guessing you mean on the inside the cockpit side of the frame which would be correct. Some photos of 66/67 cars can look a bit deceptive and the rod can look like it is mounted on outside of the windshield.
