I have seen indications that even though the seats in a '68 may look just like those in a '67, that the '68 seats may have more foam in them and may be more comfortable. Can anyone tell me if this is so?

50 years ago, that might have made more of a difference... Most of the original foam in 1960s seats is now petrified.

I have Miata seats in my 240Z and they fit great and pretty much look original to that car. They hold me in WAY better than stock seats, so I was thinking about putting them into the roadster. However, by the time I buy them and pay to have them recovered (I want them to match the existing upholstery) I figured it might be better to try to refoam the original seats I have. Also, the one piece tall seat does not look original for these cars.
Last week I dropped the driver's seat off to the guy that originally re-did them. I asked him to stiffen the straps under the bottom so they don't flex, (he said he will put in seat belt material) put in stiffer foam, and put in a bit more side bolstering. He said it would take about a week and a half. I will report back when I get the seat. He convinced me to just to the driver's seat for now, to save money and since I rarely have anyone in the passenger's seat.

I thought that it would go without saying that I am going to be rebuilding whichever I use. I put Miata seats in temporarily just for the expediency but they are getting replaced by either the original or '68s. I am looking for greater comfort primarily for my wife.

There are complete sets of new/replacement seat foam and coverings available. No idea how comfortable they are, but safe to say modern materials are capable of more than whatever was used in the 1960s. Of course, like speed and reliability, comfort is spendy.

No idea the specifics, but it must be significant as there is custom aftermarket foam available for the 68-70 Roadster. I have found nothing for the 66-67. Early Mustang foam for the lower (AND UPPER) seat section apparently works with some trimming for the 66-67. The thread I read made no mention of what works for the back riser section.
Edit:
Here is the 1968 and up Roadster foam..

Here is the 65-66 Mustang standard foam that is "close" to the 66-67 Roadster., pretty significant differences.
