Speedo cable at transmission O rings and seal

Hello all,
Just replaced the 3 tach cable seals at the distributor as excellently documented in the Tech Wiki by Ray B and others:
http://www.311s.org/pmwiki-311/pmwiki.p ... achOilSeal

I now want to plan to check/ replace the speedo cable seals at the 4 speed transmission end.
I am a little unclear where the bushing type pinion seal that works in the distributor housing, as well as for the speedo/tranny cable goes?
I don’t see anything on this diagram:

Thanks
Linda

Seal outside diameter goes into the inside diameter of sleeve #77 and bottoms out. Then the #76 speedometer pinion will stick out of the seal inside diameter.
Install seal with the lettering side facing you.

The red thing is just a temporary pointer to show the location of the seal.

Cheers

Make sure your tach cable don’t leak at the crimp just short of the distributor end too. Mine did even after R/R all seals. Used some Right Stuff Gasket maker on it and all’s well.

Replaced and reinstalled.
However the pinion is not as flush to the tranny as in the pic. I tried pushing further but would not go. Everything was greased to help it slide in more easily. Car is in gear so nothing has moved. I don’t want to start up and mess up the pinion if it has to go in even further. The bolt and tab are secured. Should I tap it lightly with a rubber mallet?
I can get a pic tommorrow.
