Swap any trans to any engine


Someone try it let's know how it came out
I've seen some with 1/4 " plate on show cars

I have a 4 speed bell housing that I would like to adapt to another transmission, will use some of his methods if I ever get around to it.

I watched about 1/2 of it. Conceptually there is no issue except for the massive amount of time involved.

Unfortunately the execution/methods shown on that video are wrought with potential fails-really bad. I've never seen such a poor method to drill for a clutch plate. Might be ok for low rpm jag clunker. The way to do it is on a rotary table.

Avoid that mess. You sure aren't going to save any time/money with those techniques.

Yeah I don't get it either
It should be very problematic as shown he eyeballs it Plus he adds a inch to the length between them ?
The quarter inch 4130 spacer stud method seems Superior to this

With the choice of 3 different Nissan 5 spds to install, it's also not nescessary.
With the diesel front half the later/better 5 spds are relatively easy to adapt and install....
Just sayin...

Why are the later better?

To follow up on Sid's question, are any of the later alternatives spring-loaded like the FS5C71A? If not, "better" really requires clarification.

They are both stronger (higher torque capability) and have better parts availability.
Also meaning, to a certain extent, you can choose a number of combinations of gear ratios.
One 1980 280Z transmission has ratios very close to the stock 5 spd roadster ratios.
The 240SX transmission has the 1st 4 gears very close to the roadster 4 spd ratios, with a .759:1 OD.

I run the 240SX trans with only the OD changed to .833:1 because I didn't think my 1800cc engine would do well with the .759

When new, you could accomplish the shift from 2nd to 3rd in a 2000 by staying on FULL THROTTLE, stomping the clutch, and hitting the shifter with the palm of your hand -- the spring loading would take care of it. Sound abusive? It was, but speed shifts and power shifts (like on a Honda Super Hawk) were common when "Our cars were newish, and we were young (and foolish)," and we went up against American V8s at the stoplights.
An early reviewer of the first series 240Z lamented that he had to consciously move from second to third ("over and up") rather than have the semi-automatic shifting that the spring-loaded 2000 provided.
To be clear, you use the spring loading in an FS5C71A not just during spirited driving, but EVERY time you shift from second to third (how often is that?).

Ahhh....No idea for the 'spring loaded' type shifting.......

I guess the one big problem tho is that the diesel bellhousing/front halfs are getting harder to find also.....

Which other 5 speeds will fit?

No other 5 spds bolt on.
The later 5 spds can be adapted with a Diesel front half and clearance made on the frame. The KA 5 spds will need some minor machining on the
diesel front half.
FS5C71A (?) (Datsun Roadster only)
FS5W71B (L series and other engines)
FS5W71C (240SX, pickups, KA24 engines....?)
