So I have started the resto of the 66 roadster! I figure the fuel tank would be a easy place to start. Super easy job with a couple squirts of pb blaster. The tank is not that bad but what do members use to clean out their tanks? Also the fuel sending unit has a loose "pin". What should I use to secure it down. In the pic the blackened "pin" is the loose one.

As far as cleaning and sealing the tank, I used the KBS system about 4 years ago and tank is still perfect.

Waiting for the new brakes to ship! Do forum members when using the volvo calipers plumb the brake line from caliper straight to the hard line or plumb just like the stock setup and use the brake line block attached to the back of the dust cover?

The "pin" is the hot terminal for your fuel gauge. There should be a rubber grommet/bushing between the pin and the metal base. If you solder the pin to the base, which is the source of ground, you will have a direct short, maybe some sparks and burning wires. Not good around gasoline. Check with vendors for replacement sender or check tech wiki for the inexpensive VW alternative. Pat

Dynaguy is correct about the pin. I was looking at the wrong pin. If you decide you need a good used sender, I have one in my parts stash. PM me if you are interested. I live in the Vancouver area.

Had some headway on the project just to find RUST! I took the front quarter panels off to find on the passenger side a soft spot. Then proceeded to poke a hole in the sheet metal. I am farming the dash resto to my dad. Really want to keep the patina on/in the gauges. Also see if he can install a pop out DVD player too .

Got some front end spare parts from a local roadster owner. And picking up a engine hoist to take the body off.

I got a new front end part a week and a half ago. I got a new lens in my left eye to replace the one with the cataract. I can already see that it will help me with my work on various projects. I did a couple welding jobs a few days before the surgery and was having a very hard time to see what I was welding. When I would lean in too close to the arc it made my pacemaker cut out so I have to sit down for a minute. I did a little welding yesterday and found that now I can see my work from the recommended two feet away.

Finally got the body off! Its going to make the work so much easier. Funny thing is that I can say I have to roadsters now

Isn't it cool that you can actually do this in your typical 2 car garage? I remember when my (now ex) brother in law suggested to me that I needed to pull the body off the frame. I thought it was way beyond me, but we did it (and a good thing too, frame top was rusting through). Good memories!
