Left Hand Allen screw

Post by roadsterdude1600 »

Does anyone know the size and pitch of the left hand allen screw that should be in the end of a late water pump shaft? I found a good used pump but no bolt in the shaft. The old one I removed had been modified and had a right hand bolt that had been ground off ??

If you are not using the original fan clutch why do you need it?

Good question. I guess I don't if that is the only function. Will a spacer to replace the fan clutch need that screw? I have not gotten to that stage yet, so I was looking at parts and thinking ahead. As a practical matter I am thinking about just changing out all the hardware, and using an old style water pump with an old style fan, wp pulley and crank pulley and pulling an old alternator mount from a parts engine and putting a GM Alternator on the right side while I am building the 70 engine back. So I might not need any of my late hardware. I am ordering some bolts from McMaster Carr and was thinking about that left hand bolt to add to my order, but it is good to know I will not need it whichever way I decide to build back. It is nice having a few old engines lying around to source from. Also nice to have this group to bounce questions off of! Thanks
