I bought a new dash cover (the cheaper hard fiberglass one) for my 67 Roadster. I have the windshield off and I need to pull the dash, trim ring and steering wheel. Anybody done this before? I could use some pointers. Aren't there those nasty clips on the trim ring that are so hard to get off? Thanks in advance for the help. Mark

I have not done that myself, but would love to see it done. If you have the time and equipment take digital photos and do a how to article for 311s.org! I am sure that Steve would post it (right Steve?)

I don't think that it is that earth shattering. I have removed a few, and reversing it does not look that difficult. If you have the pad off, it is fairly easy. If not, here is what I suggest:

Remove the mirror
Remove all of the screws that go through the dash pad
Cut around the stainless trim with a razor to make the old pad removal easier.
Remove the radio console (or at least unbolt it)
Remove Unbolt the steering column
Remove the bolt at the top center of the dash
Remove the 4 side bolts (2 each side) that hold the dash in place.
Pull the dash out a little and remove the clips. (if you cannot get to them all, remove the speedo, tach and glove box for easier access)
Once the trim and old pad are off, you would reverse the process, but you will likely need to remove the steering wheel as well (fiberglass won't want to flex THAT much)

Plan for it to take a day or more - take your time. While the dash is stripped of the trim, it is a good time to freshen up the paint on it.

If it is not flaked off, you can freshen the 65 - 67 cars dashes with a light coat of grey primer. For the 67.5, black primer works. I wanted a little more gloss, so I used satin black. Looks good.

If the finish is damaged ,the wrinkle paint is the closest match that I have seen.

The Eastwood Company sells the wrinkel paint and it works well as I have used it. Those little clips holding the trim ring on are a real pain.
