Hood letter location template?

I'm getting ready to drill mounting holes for the letters on a NOS hood for my 67.5. The original hood had the holes welded up. Does anyone know where to find a template for where I should drill the holes? If not, could someone let me know the overall distance side to side on the hood letters outside to outside?

If there is a fixed location for exterior trim, it would be very helpful if we could pull together a template or measurements for the needed holes.

I have a 66 hood that I can take the pin locations from for the D-A-T-S-U-N. Pretty sure the emblem is the same location on all of the hoods. Hope you are not in too big of a hurry as I have other things I am working on before I can get to it.

Good to see that I'm not the only one with this dilemma. Curious to see if there is a template for when I get to that point. (I'm only just starting my restorre)

I had a NOS hood in the shop so I traced the holes. I transferred this to graph paper with 1" squares so you can double check the scale when you print it out. Distance from the end holes to the edge of the hood is also provided. You can check this with the centerline to see how it fits. I'm sure there is some very slight variation from hood to hood and year to year. Hope this helps.

Mike, Great! I'll print this out & give it a try.

Egz, It wouldn't hurt to have a second template just to verify things. I'm far away from needing the information, I'm not finished with body work on a frame off so you have plenty of time. I don't expect to be ready for chrome until October or later....was hoping for September but you know how that goes!

I'll also try to get locations off the inside of my old hood but the holes were welded up so it will be hard to get exact locations.

Once I have a verified template I will digitize it & post it for further use.

You're welcome. Yes Steve, please print it out and see if it overlays the holes on your hood. That would be a good check.

Your hood letter template appears spot on. The only difference I had was the measurement to the "D". Yours was 8-1/8" where mine was the same on both sides 8-3/4". Center of the 66 hood is 29".

I went back and checked and it should be 8 3/4 to the hole for the D. I wrote it down wrong initially. Thanks for checking!
