Extra holes is floorboards, sealing

Post by Jimmers74 »

Due to cracking of the sealant on the floorboards of my 69, I gouged it out with a vibrating tool (flat blade) and a wire wheel. The cracks in the sealant were harboring rust, and I'm intent on removing all rust before I reseal with POR-15. My question is: how to seal the extra holes in the floorboard. There are 8 for the seats, and only 4 used, and 2 extras near the front, et al, in addition to the plugged drain hole. Looking for suggestions as to how to seal these extra holes, either before or after the floor is sealed.

Tape or rubber plug. If you are going to lay down a sound mat tape would work fine.

What's a sound mat tape? Not familiar with that term. Any suggestion on rubber plug source?

Sorry, should of inserted a comma between mat and tape. Just cover the hole with some duct tape. The factory used some kind of thin tape to cover holes in the floorboard. If you are going to undercoat the car it will disguise the tape. You can also tape from the inside and it will be concealed by the carpet or the sound pad if you choose to use one. You could use metal foil tape as well, but I don’t think it would be as puncture resistant as duct tape. Best plan would be to find a thin flat plug that fit tightly to the top and bottom of the floor, but may be difficult to find one. Tape will work just fine. If it comes loose just replace it.
