another SU question

This is for a set of 1600 carbs - believed to be from a '68.

There is a knob underneath each carb, behind the mixture knob. I'm guessing this sets the fuel flow. How do I set this initially? Any way to know if it is adjusted correctly?

Unless I am mistaken, the purpose of the knurled nut is to keep people from dorking around with the mixture. It is supposed to limit the nozzle adjustment so that the emissions would not be altered. Of course, I could be wrong...

Yes, my stock 68 1600 has that same knob.. not sure what it's for.

If it's what I think you are talking about, I agree with Sid, they are the stops to keep the mixture adjustment from being opened to far. They can be removed... Bill

There is a carb pic on Tech Discussions, "fuel hose and carb hose sizes" that shows a bottom view of the SU. Does it show what you are talking about?

Yes and no. LOL!! If you look at that photo, there is a threaded hole in the carb body that is visible just to the left of the hose at the nozzle. That is where the knurled knob would go. The pre smog cars don't have those btw.

Interesting. That picture is of my carburetor. I had wondered what the hell that little plug was for. I just chalked it up to black magic voodoo. Now I know.

I can't believe there was actually a part on these cars that a number of you didn't know what it was for....I was sure you guys knew every nut and bolt!
I guess there are still a few suprises with these wonderful cars!
