I've been waiting a long time to share this story with you.
This is a 1967 Bluebird RL411 "SSS" model, it came from the factory as a "high-performance" trim with the same R16 from our beloved roadsters. It's a great story with the owner having owned one as his first car in high school and buying one for his 50th birthday.
I learned a few things about these 411s too, like the wild through-the-fender exhaust! The R16 is also blessed by our very own Tom (notoptoy) East Coast distributor on the hot-rod R16:
With dyno tuning it made 79hp/95tq to the wheels:
I remember we got one in for exhaust work around the late 70s. Customer couldn't understand why it took so long to order the exhaust. I recall all the automatics were SSS.
I had one to drive in high school before I got the first roadster. It was just the plain jane A engine model but was still cool car to have and ran great. I looked at an SSS one to rebuild a few years ago and wish I had moved forward on the project. Way back then when I moved up to the 2l roadster the only thing I missed was that back seat.....
