My car anniversary and emblem gaskets?

Post by orangedawg »

Today is my 37th anniversary of owning my 2000 (bought in high school at local Datsun dealership). 3rd anniversary of Mount St. Helens. This is my typical every 5th year or so post that this year that I say I am finally going to get my well patinaed, poorly-maintained 1970 2000 on the road. At least this year I have enlisted Dave Premo to help me start to figure out my Solex's, and at least it runs much better than before. I have probably put a total of less than 1000 miles on car in last 10-15 years because it ran so poorly I just let it sit in driveway, uncovered. Yes, I am a very bad owner.

Big shout-out to Dave for all of his phone and texting advice. Dave is SUPER patient and an all around nice guy! We are at least getting it closer to running better!

And does anyone know what gasket goes behind the emblems (see photo)? I removed them and it looks like gasket disintegrated!

Okay, I kid, but man that is quite the build up behind them. I'm tempted to not even use emblems as it does seem not that I need them. LOL. Apparently, I have never removed them since I have owned it, and last car washing (other than snow or rain) was probably about 5 years ago.

Anyway, yes, a bad owner, but at least I am getting closer to actually going on a drive (did take it out on Saturday very briefly and it seemed to run okay, but still need to get balance and idle tuned in).

Wow, that is quite the build up. Congratulations on owning your car for such a long time. Yep, Dave is a super nice guy and very knowledgeable on many things automotive. Good luck with the gaskets and the carbs..... :D Kidding about the gaskets.

Hey orangedawg, One silver lining of this virus lockdown is that it gives us all more time to work on our projects. Unless of course your in a job where you are still working. I lived in Wenatchee for a bit many years ago. Beautiful area. Worked at the Goodyear store there for awhile. Lived in Yakima for many years. Don't miss that town a bit. Now retired down Mexico way. If you get tired of the cold weather next winter, give us a shout. Best of luck with the roadster resurrection.
Ive seen normal. It aint pretty.
