My glove box decided to disintegrate as I was doing some rewiring. I tried to fix it but it was a lost cause.... RIP

Got another one, now I need to transfer the fuse box over to the new glove box. The fuse box screws into a metal plate which is kind of riveted to the cardboard. I cut it out to transfer it over. How have others done that ?

Your photos are pretty small. Any chance of posting higher resolution photos? The site can handle it now days.

I took out the rivets and am going to use 2 small bolts to adhere the plate to the cardboard. I considered glue but this is easier for placement, I think.

You can pick up split rivets at Ace Hardware. Small bolts should work fine though.

Got the fuse box mounted to the metal plate , secured with 8-32x1/2” round machine screw with nuts . Wrapped the wiring and pulled it thru then placed the grommets. Much easier to do with the box loose. Then installed the box which is a a very tight fit.
Will put the screws in and lid, and connect the wires to fuse box next time.

I would put a washer under the nuts to make the clamping area larger so its not just localized under the nut.

I was trying to pull the wiring thru and the old box just crumbled. I thought I could fix it but it was a lost cause. Much easier to pull the wires thru with a box uninstalled. And you can hook up the clock and wiper motor plus ammeter easier.
I will put a washer underneath each machine screw, good idea.
These are probably simple projects to some, but there are many amateurs out there, and these pics etc are primarily for them, as I learn to do them too.

Linda. Use fender washers. I'd epoxy them to the back of the glove box and epoxy flange nuts to the washer. The fuse box is going to take some abuse as you pull out fuses it's it's not going to give but that new glove box will

Good idea , Greg. Fender washer are usually pretty big though I thought....
The box is surprisingly sturdy. I test fit it first, thinking it didn’t fit initially but it does. Then took it out to fit fuse box and wires before wedging it back in again. So pretty strong. But extra reinforcement never hurt

Keep me updated cause I have a glove box I never installed.

Only the 2 groups of fuse box wires to come thru the box. Wires for the left side and the right. Just take a pic of what you have , then center the box between the 2 holes. Replace the grommets. Box looks like it would stay put without any screws actually. But in any case I don’t think you even need them all. It does help to have a pre assembled box, so you don’t have to think. lol

Hard to get all the screws in to secure the box, but the glove box door was easy.I was thinking about some kind of push pin for securement, especially along the top. It seems pretty secure though as it is a snug fit

I know it’s a little late for this specific example, but I just bought a used glove box door and am unsure how to properly mount it to the glove box. My used ‘68 1600 did not come with a glove box door so any tips or pics would be very helpful.
