I had the coolant about half way down the expansion tank. I know for a fact that I didn’t suck any coolant up.

The 1st place it blows is the head gasket
not the block

The Neck wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 6:53 pm Well here’s the good news. I was able to figure out what the issue was after a positive block leak test.

Looking at options now for fixing the 1600, upgrading to a stroker or 2000, or go with an SR like I had originally planned for the car.

Gonna be an interesting next few days or weeks while I figure this out.
What was the issue?

Car was overheating religiously about 20 min into any drive. Fuel starvation and vapor locking would kick in. Did the block leak test and found the exhaust. Today I pulled the head off and found the gasket to be blown out of cylinder 1.

Was there water in the oil?

Linda head gaskets can go bad in a few ways. I think the problem with Mike’s car is a blown head gasket between the combustion chamber and the cooling system. The net result is combustion pressure is significantly higher than cooling system pressure and it forces water out of the cooling system. No oil would be present in this type of problem.

But water could make it’s way down into the oil pan producing a chalky looking oil, correct? after the head gasket leaks.

No when a head gasket blows between the combustion chamber and the cooling system it pushes the water out of the radiator. No water goes to the oil pan.
