what kind of car do you have? A datsun roadster. HUH???

THE most boring post, but it is something to look at......
at school ppl will ask me what kind of car i have....
me- " a datsun"
them- (they laugh at me)" a datsun what??"
me- "roadster."
them-"What the @#$%??"
me-"If you dont know what it is why would you laugh at it?"
them"b/c its a datsun."
me-"so what do you have?"
them-"a nissan"
me- "hahahahahaha, retard"
them-"why are you laughing?"
me-"they are the same thing"
them-"but i have a nissan and u have a datsun"
me-" you have listened to kanye west one too many times"

(Kanye west's song "gold digger" says "He gone make it into a Benz out of that Datsun")

Back in the dark ages when a Roadster was my only transportation (the 80's), I pulled into a small, older Datsun dealership hoping to score some parts. The space directly in front of the glass door to the parts department was vacant, so I parked there and went in. A surly 20ish guy asked what I wanted. I told him I was just wanting to check to see if they had any parts for a Datsun Roadster lying about (and I named a few bits that I needed).
He said, "Datsun Roadster? What's that?"
So, I replied, "It is a little convertible sports car."
he said with a sarcastic tone, "Datsun never made a convertible."
so I moved aside and said in a very irritated tone, "Then what in the hell did I drive up here??" and I pointed to the car - the word D A T S U N was clearly legible on the hood.

He got a bit embarassed and became quite helpful at that point!

Now, if you REALLY want to freak your buddies out, tell them it is a Datsun Fairlady (you have to be secure in your manhood to say that loudly!)

lol, that is great. i just cant wait till someone tells me nissan/datsun didnt make a roadster/2000/srl311/convertible.... but my graphic arts teacher knew what it was!!!

Tangentially related to the Kanye West thing:
Another song that mentions Datsun is Sheryl Crowe's "All I Wanna Do." The line goes:
The good people of the world are washing their cars

In the 80's the local parts guys would tell me that "Datsun never made a roadster". I'd point to the car in the lot and they would tell me it was a Triumph. Ha!

Other story - I used to work at Chiat/Day, the ad agency that has the Nissan account. The first floor of the parking garage was for Nissans only. I parked my '64 1500 there (next to the agency 60's Datsun surf van) and was asked to move it. They were pretty embarassed when I told them what kind of car it was!

You got caught??? Hmmmm, you need to learn not to get caught.... not stop breaking the law!!

I havent taken mine w/o a 21yo in the car with me but it will be very tempting when I get it running and the top on..... but i wont.
