The coolant drain plug on the block (below carbs, just above starter) is weeping coolant. It's coming from the actual nozzle/drain, not from where it threads into the block. Is there an easy replacement for these?

Coolant has been drained, since I'm working on the water pump, so now's a good time.

If you are not wanting to retain the OEM tap, you could replace it with a BSP threaded brass plug

Later cars used a plug instead of a valve.

I know that it is difficult to get at but if you can get a screwdriver onto it to turn it it should seal up again. IIRC there is a tension spring on them so it should clean and tighten itself.

Yes when theyget some age its best to lesve alone.

Lexus 450 lx has brass drain plugs maybe some others , I believe are 1/4 pipe tread

I have the carbs off right now, so getting at it to turn it wasn't too much of a pain. I found what is clearly the Open position and assume that 180° from that is fully Closed. Is that right? If so, I'm still getting weeping at that Closed position.

If I decide to just replace it with a brass plug, would that just be something I could get at my local plumbing supply? Anything particular or special about it or just standard brass plug?

Did you try spraying it with PB Blaster or similar in case a piece of rust got in there or something? Then maybe a slight tap tap.

I'm at that stage on my '66 r16 build. It appears to BSP thread.
