End of another Season

Post by itsa68 »

While reversing out of the garage and onto the driveway, I happened to glance towards the neighbours yard and noticed that he was also pulling out.
He and waved then momentarily gunned his motor.

I returned the wave, got into 1st, blipped the throttle, and dropped the clutch.
The tires spun like heck, finally grabbed some traction, and in a fraction of a second I had done a 180 to face towards the street.

My neighbour smiled and motioned his arm in the direction towards the corner, just at the end of our street.
I realized that he had a few more horsepower and a 5-speed to boot, but I also knew that his motor was poorly maintained.
My engine was running top notch due to a recent rebuild and a fresh tune up.

I confidently acknowledged him with a nod and quickly put it into 1st.

Both of our motors increased in revs and before I knew it we launched and headed towards the street.
The air was filled with the sound of screaming motors and hot exhaust.

At the end of driveways we both cranked it out onto the street and headed towards the corner.
(My driveway is the nearest to the corner, so I held back to let us get even before giving it full throttle.)

The neighbour was coming up fast, and just as he was almost even to me, I let the clutch out and 2nd came into play.....A bit of wheel spin, wrestled for control, hooked up and headed down the street.
I wound it up in 2nd and held it there until we were dead even.
(You could really hear that his motor was really cranking it up to get past me.)

After a quick shift to 3rd, I lost some ground and the neighbour took over the lead.
He must have got it into 4th because things were really blowing by.
My face was stinging from the cool wind.

We slowed down at the corner, and since there was no traffic, both of us went hard thru a drift and ended up pointing back in the direction of our houses.
Up thru the gears we both went, you could hardly see the houses to the left and right as we went by.
As I looked down, I noticed that I was in 4th gear, and the neighbour was only a few yards ahead. Surely, he must be also in his top gear, which is 5th.

I pushed the throttle as far as she would go and to my amazement I moved right along side.
More power was needed to get past but I did not think I could push it any faster.

Just about then faint honking could be heard above the wail of the free flow exhausts toned at full tilt.
My neighbour and I both looked across at each other and quickly throttled down.

Pulling along side of us, was the local……………to be continued

………, neighbourhood blonde hottie, in her new 4x4.
Next thing I remember was us saying :
“Sure, we’re almost finished snow-blowing this end of the street. Would like us to do your driveway next?

What?
I was just relaying my experience of our first winter snowstorm.
Did you think I was going to take the roadster out in that kind of weather!
