Radiator caps 1600

Post by Oddworx »

So I think the seal has gone out on my radiator cap. And I cant find a replacement part number. Would like to pick one up at a parts store rather than order. Anyone know the part # for a good radiator cap replacement?

Check the Parts Interchange in the Tech Wiki, I think there is something there for caps.

Those radiator caps are hard to come by. Pretty sure it is the same for either the 1600 or the 2000. I believe Dean sells a new rubber seal. If you still think your need to replace it, hit up Ross or Mike Young. I am sure they will have one in their stash. They are not available new as I had a 2 liter radiator recored last year and the shop lost my cap. I checked every where to see what was available and came up empty handed. I believe I got a good used one from Ross. So, hang onto those radiator caps as they are hard to get. The over flow tank caps show up on Fleabay new but not the radiator cap.

Available on Ebay, overflow cap. New rubber for the water tower cap works well.

my seal was rough on one side. I ended up sanding it and using gasket maker to adhere it to the housing. Going to let set for 24 hours. hopefully good as new.

Have you tested the refurbished cap to make sure it is working correctly?

Nope. It's Refurbished, I'd assume it's fine.

Cut a new piece of rubber and rtv to hold in place I believe. It is holding up well with no leaks so far but just now starting to run the engine after sitting for awhile. Did this on both caps (radiator and thermostat housing).
