Drove my 68 1600 for its longest drive yet since buying it (20 miles of mixed city/highway) and I’m curious on how much heat I should feel through the shifter/trans tunnel area.
It felt quite warm on the shifter and around the boot but maybe that’s normal? Engine temp was pretty steady until near the end of the drive when it went up a bit but never got “hotâ€.
Thanks!
How much heat?

Re: How much heat?
My 5 speed would get warm enough to heat my hands up on the stick. One of the most impressive changes I noticed when I switched to the Swepco 201 gear oil was the shifter no longer got hot. I don't know if the 201 is the correct oil for a 4 speed (probably) but I highly recommend it. Worth the money.
You can also get some heat from the exhaust.

Thanks Greg, I’ll look up that oil.
