Hello!

I just became the owner of a 1966 Datsun 1600!

She drives, but is in need of work, both cosmetic and some mechanical, but she is sweet!

Having fun learning all about her!

Her photo is here: http://www.sunsetgrill.net/gallery/album02/PB140107

Nice to meetcha all!

Take care!

Congratulations. That looks nice, nothing like a red sports car.

PS, Don't listen to Sid (SPL310), he's evil  . There will be roadsters and parts all over your house. :D

LOL, her name is "Pirate!"

And yes, we were also considering picking up another one, but we've had to let that one go for awhile yet...dang!

I have a couple of questions already!

First, how do I get it so that my car shows on the side of the posts like ya'll's do?

Second, I found my car today on the Registry website, and it says it's a U20 conversion, is that right? What does that mean?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Fairlaydee

The pics are avatars. You can add them by editing your forum Profile.

Your car was originally a 1600 (that's the SPL311- part of the VIN), which means it came with the R16 1.6-litre engine and 4-speed tranny. The U20 is a 2-litre engine usually mated w/ a 5-speed tranny (the 2000 is SRL311-).

Conversion means Todd or a PO swapped in the U20/5-speed.

Hi Fairlaydee, welcome to the forum, looks like you got a nice roadster there :D . I live 80 miles to the south in Lebanon. I guess in the roadster world we are not to far away. Bill

If the car is still as it is on the registry pictures, you have one very serious engine.

Thanks for all your answers!

Somethings do look different comparing the motorworks now to the photo on the registry (the valve cover is now red and all the yellow wires are gone, replaced by what looks like wire mesh stuff, pardon me, not very technical, I know, but bear with me, lol, I'd ask Marty my fiance but...he had to run to the store again this morning, and I "know" which car he took!), but she is a 5 speed, and we are enjoying her immensely already, had to run to a couple of stores last night, and instead of taking the Pontiac Sunfire, we took the Lady Pirate (of course) out as she was just sitting there looking at us...

Looking forward to meeting other Datsun folks in Oregon and Washington, finding out about clubs and events, and as always, more knowledge...!!!

Thanks again to all for the warm welcome!

Welcome to the wonderful world of datsun roadsters. It sounds like you are already looking for number two. I took the liberty of resizing your picture you submitted for the registry and adding it as your avatar. I will update the registry real soon. Enjoy!

Thank you, Steve, I appreciate it!

And yes, I think we just might end up with another (and maybe another, and another, and....) but who knows?
