rear brake bleeder orientation

67 1/2 1600. Noticed while the car was on the rack that the bleeder valves on the rear brakes were located at the bottom of the wheel cylinder. Is this correct or have they been installed wrong? I'm obviously not a mechanic but shouldn't the bleeder be at the high point?

It's correct. Don't know why they did it that way...conjecture is that it aids in sediment removal during bleeding

Reviving this for just a bit more info. I just replaced the axle seals and bearings on my car and while it was apart I checked the cylinders for any signs of problems. Finding nothing unusual I also put speed bleeders in. I can't convince myself that slowly pushing down the brake pedal to bleed them is going to get all the air out. What are the thoughts on a vacuum type bleeding system? They make hand pumps as well as venturi systems using compressed air. Any thoughts?
How did Datsun get away with putting these wheel cylinders in upside down? How did the bleed them at the factory?

They must have a channel built in to the top of the cyl .
It would never bleed the air out otherwise
Some frt calipers the difference between L & R is the bleeder tapped in a different way
