water pump rebuilders

Post by 70MTRoadster »

Has anyone used Flying Dutchman Water Pump Rebuilders out of Gold Hill, OR to do their water pump? He quoted $129.50 and 7-10 days turn around for my U20 pump.

That's weird, I'm getting ready to send him one from my r16. $115 was his quote. Curious if anyone has had any experience also.

These are really sweet:

https://www.datsunrestorationproducts.c ... nufactured

Actually better than new in several ways. Note the stainless hardware. Not a budget build, but outstanding value/new quality. Still much less $$$ than NOS. includes gaskets.

About 50% of the cores are build-able.

U20 pump shown, but we have pumps for all roadster engines. We can build aluminum 1600 pumps too, but sometimes its cheaper and easier to use new Japanese pumps. All work is done in house in GA.

DynaGuy,

The Dutchman said he has done a bunch of pumps for some Datsun racing folks in So. Cal. I didn't ask who but he said they are repeat customers and happy. I also emailed and sent pictures of my pump to Commercial Rebuilders in Houston, TX. They quoted 1 day to do it and the same price as the Ductchman at $129.50. I think I'm going to try the Dutchman. He bought out the old original Dutchman who has some Youtube stuff and said he worked for the old man. My seaching shows that they had a outstanding reputation.

I think I would go this route. Instead of using someone who has a lot of experience in rebuilding pumps, I would go for the one that has a lot of experience rebuilding Datsun pumps.

Yup, that's what I did. Without JT's input I could have had a rebuilt pump that would not have worked with my engine fan. The guy is definitely a treasure for the Roadster community. FWIW Pat

BTW I also have his ss exhaust system, Bilstein shocks, rebuilt dizzy and a few other odds and ends. Worth every penny! Pat

My rebuilt U20 pump will be in the mail tomorrow so pretty quick turn around time from March 18th to April 6th. My pump had a rusted out stamped steel impeller that Wade replaced with a cast one that he had to machine to get it to fit in the roadster housing (extra 20 bucks). All told with shipping $154.00, way cheaper than a new pump at $325 and up from vendors. Wade says he rebuilds pumps from a roadster racing outfit in so. cal. so I trust his work will be fine.
