I have it all unwired and unbolted, but there is not enough clearance to get it out. The damn Exhaust manifold is in the way. Any ideas?

It’s the stock 1600 starter from what I can see, so you have to pull the starter. When you put it back together use a 2000 starter and then you can change it without pull the exhaust manifold. Sorry for the bad news.

Or better yet put in a gear reduction starter.

I have an extra gear reduction starter if you want to come down and pick it up.

This was pretty much what I was expecting to hear. Thanks

I thought it does come out with difficulty, though.
Maybe a big Sawzall? LOL

I thought you could tip it up to get it out of the transmission.

Not the long 1600 starter, that’s why you want the 2000 starter. It hits the manifold almost the second you get it loose.

I got the stock 1600 starter out. it cleared my stock manifold but I had to break off the 1/4" square supurfluous 'boss' (seen in the picture above) to get it through the triangle. I guess the headers are closer to the back of the starter than the stock manifold?

Well good news! After realizing how big a pain it would be to remove the starter I checked the voltage on my battery and it was low. Put starter back in and put a charger on the battery. Started up fine.

Isn't that the love/hate feeling that happens? When you realize you overlooked the simple (how could I?) and then the embarrassment is overcome by the joy of the problem being gone (yes!). I suspect we've all been there/done that--I certainly have! Glad you're back on track.

Seriously. I have to address the slow drain issue of the battery, but that's a wayyyy better place to be than removing all that other S-it!

Glad to see you got the starter out! You may still want to upgrade to the shorty style. I was planning on selling my extra one since I don’t have much room for “extra†parts.

Your clock, if working, cold be the source of a slow drain!
