Both location and type battery. I'm trying to decide if I go in the trunk (and if so, where), or under the package tray like Michael Spreadbury. Love to see some different options!

Edit: Saw the post in the tech section now from several years ago, but it doesn't have a lot of options, so still asking. I keep thinking with technology changing so fast that there may be better battery options.

I have mine mounted in the rear quarter panel pocket (right side, opposite of driver). I'll get some photos of it for you later.

I did it to my 86 300turbo zx
Put the battery where the spare was , used welding ground cable from ace hardware inside that non split black plastic wire guard under the cabin along the rail wirer tied then to a small elect box that connects to the pos leads...like it is in the car

I’m interested in this thread. I’m planning on the rear right try no for my battery with a smaller gel bat or similar. I thought about putting in the package tray but my suspension is in the way. But I would still like to see the what others have done/ thought of.

This is the setup I built for my weekend play toy. I patterned it off of a battery mount kit that Rennsport offers for 911’s. The cutoff switch has a cable that runs over the top of the rear firewall and has a handle to pull to disconnect the battery. The black patch is rubberized coating to make sure there aren’t sparks installing or an accident.

If your goal is simply to save or transer weight, a Li Harley battery mounted up front saves alot of hassle. As long as your charging system does not exceed 15 volts you are set. They weigh about 6lbs

Sure thing! Here are some quick photos I took this morning. I'll get some better pictures of the mount we made, but it's basically an "L" with a bracket the hugs the battery and pulls it tight to the body. Then our interior trimmer made a false panel to cover it (second pic).

Holy Crap! That's so clean.

Let me throw in a bid for safety. Include in your planning the idea that in the event of a rear end collision, a ruptured gas tank next to a dislodged battery could spell disaster. I also know some police vehicles have extra batteries stowed on the passenger side because most collisions occur on the driver's side (traffic side when stopped at the curb or on the shoulder).

I think most accidents in a Roadster would spell disaster, unfortunately. I think if safety is a large concern a brand new Miata is likely the best route. Then again, I don't even have seat belts in my car

For my SR20 swap, I started by copying Spriso's design but found it didn't work well for my application. I cut a hole in the passenger side of the package shelf, built a box, and installed a Braille battery. There were two reasons I changed the design. 1) It was difficult to swap the battery because, in my case, I had to remove my factory roll bar (which is now removed anyway) and then pull the rear deck upholstery. It was a PITA. 2) The Braille battery couldn't support the loads of my electronics in particular a small parasitic drain from my infinitybox system.

My solution was to weld the hole and build an easily removable,lightweight frame in the same location that is accessible from under the car. I upgraded to an odyssey battery that is larger and heavier but has the reserve capacity I need. I also ran wires through the trunk to "jumper" terminals under the driver's quarter.
