SPLU311-02914 Interior Redo - Sort Of
This is my driver car while I restore the other one that has had many I'm going to get it done by dates.
I hated the interior in the driver with all the glued in carpet everywhere. So I decided I would finally put in some of the new pieces I had. I also hate the red it is painted and want to get it back to the original white at some point.
So out comes the interior and of course it has become much more. As is usual every one of these cars came standard with rust. This one obviously was in a wet place with a leaky top. Rusty floor boards, back wall and wheel wells. It is also a car that was flipped. They tore out the interior and painted right over the rust.
So I am cleaning it up for repair. Fixed my HF blaster so it works and have been hitting it with garnet. Getting the rust out of the pits is a pain. And lots of light through the floor boards.
Funny thing is the rockers are good but the front door pillars are both rusty. One has been fixed already along with the driver side front rail.

Yes well, I have a swiss cheese body outside I'll be cutting apart that came off the other car. It was too far gone.
Did you raise it up off the frame?

That red one is extremely close to rust free, and many owners would love to have started with your carcass instead of the one they did.

Hah, tin worm, that's funny. I expected some rust in the floor at the front. But the rust in the back wall and the wheel wells was not a pleasant surprise. And the cracked floor around the seat holes plus additional rust through adds to the disappointment. I know seat holes are common but I'm missing some metal.Nissanman wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2019 3:49 am AMEN to that C.Costine![]()

On the plus side I only have one small crack from the gas tank, mild pitting, and one small pin hole in the bottom of the right side well in the trunk. But there is the rust through at the bottom on the back wall. And of course the access plate screws all broke off.
The quarter panels seem to be undamaged. The back panel has some bondo in it on the right side since you can feel it on the inside.
When I got this car virtually everything had been painted red including the 'specially modified' wiring which was replaced. I've got a new harness built that moves the fuse box and relays out of the engine compartment. Getting the dash powder coated. Not redoing the chrome, too much for a driver and it is in fair shape.

The interior redo has progressed to this. On the plus side the frame is in very good shape. Just some pitting from the pads.
Unfortunately I popped my back taking apart the front so it'll be a couple days to finish it. Then off for powder coat.

Looking good , Curtis. You get more points when you start from square 1, or 2 or 3...
Nissanman had quite the build journey

My kind of mess. Although not nearly enough grease and dirt on the bits and pieces! I give you only a 4 out of 10 for mess level

That's because some of it already had a clean up yesterday. I even resorted to the blue gloves this time. When I redid the engine bay a couple or so years ago much of the mess got cleaned. That was dirty. I did however managed to get grease on my sleeve and give myself half a Hitler mustache. It was very disturbing.notoptoy wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2020 6:43 pm My kind of mess. Curtis I think it’s time to replace that branding iron in the lower right corner with a LED version. If that’s too bold a step then you could transition slowly by going to a compact fluorescent.

I am guilty of having one of those too! It is on a retractable reel from the ceiling, incredibly convenient. What's a 2nd degree burn from time to time matter!?! Heck it's been there 28 years, how could I ever change it? I thought I was doing well to put a "rough" conditions bulb in it. Oh, and a compact fluorescent will last about 3 minutes with me in my experience.
