Do your locks match?

Post by spl310 »

I was wondering how many folks out there have all of their locks still matching after all of these years. Out of the few cars that I have had, only a couple had them all match...

Sid;
Mine match. Oh, once I get moved (Spring) I do believe that I'll be headed your way to look at the car you pm'd me about. Sam

Hi Sid, My 70 srl that I bought last Spring has a full set of matching locks, with the non-locking gas cap that was stock on the 70's. One key for the ignition and a different key for the doors trunk and console. A 2 key setup.

My 68 spl I'm not sure. I have 3 keys, one for the ignition and one for the doors, trunk, and console then a different key for the gas cap. Is this correct for the 68's. Over the years I've worn out a couple ignition switches in the car and in 2002 I replaced all the locks from a 69 parts car.

I have also heard, for a price, that one of the vendors will re-key your locks to a matching set....Bill

All of my roadsters, except the first one, have had matching locks - including the gas caps! Some did not have keys, but I had some cut from codes and they work fine. http://www.311s.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.ph ... light=lock

Do Your locks match?

Post by cicsfix »

Previous owner broke the center console latch. I had a VERY difficult -- and last -- experience with one major uppity machinist to carve a new latch. It didn't fit, and I figured $100 was enough punishment to never deal with that guy again. Eventually, I bought a new lock assembly from Rallye, disassembled it, and replaced the tumbler with the lock tumbler of my '66's original latch. So . . . I now again have a car requring only three keys -- one for the ignition, one for most everything else, and one for the antenna.

My 69 uses three keys also, but my center console lock doesn't match. I can't even get the key in it. I have an extra one and was thinking about altering the tumbler to take my original key for the rest of the locks. Does anyone see any reason for me not to alter the tumbler?

I see none. I am going to do that with some renegade lock cylinders that I have around here.

I have 2 keys. If i had the original ignition switch I would have one for all. One key open the trunk doors and center console and I have a early style switch(original is gone) that has a old nissan key to start it.

Four!
1- ignition
1-doors trunk console
1- gas cap
1- attenna

I will have to find my old gas cap core and get down to three in the future.

Or.....the alternative is a screwdriver and a cork for the gas filler.
