Also, I've been hassling the owner of a super clean '69 Corona Coupe for a few years now, but methinks it will eventually achieve "one that got away" status. They aren't very great cars from an engine/chassis standpoint, but it could be made into something sweet with the right mods...

Love the Corona Coupe.

Very rare beastie - I've only seen a few and only in southern CA.

1972 senior in high school. I was 'restoring a '56 MGA, my neighbor, a Professor at CSU had just finished a total, quality restore on a '53 Morgan. He was going a a two year sabbatical and offered the Morgan to me for $1500.00. Having no funds, I went to the parents, begging. "There is no 1953 car worth that much!" was the reply. It went elsewhere. Twenty years later I found that a similar car had sold for $75,000. Made sure to remind the folks what we had missed.

The summer after the Morgan deal was the first gas shortage. I had a POS Sunbeam Alpine that I got tired of trying to keep on the road. I put it up for sale for $250.00. A guy in a '69 426 hemi RoadRunner offered an even trade. He was tired of getting 4-6MPG. I didn't want that gas hog! Twenty years later I reminded myself of the lost deal when I saw one sell for $75,000 Live and learn "Hate those expensive lessons" Pat Mahoney

A 1964 Corvette convertible with matching hard top. 327, 4-speed, but I don't remember the interior color. $3500 with about 2500 miles. It was on the dealer's showroom floor. I had to pass because, while I could afford the payments, I would have had no money left for gas, insurance, dating, etc. This was in 1965 and I still kick myself for not getting it. On the other hand, seeing how I drove my 1600, I probably would have killed myself in it.

Ha! It ain't the one that got away, but I had the same problem in '73. The '68 Vette was only $1500, but insurance for a young single sailor was $3000! Considering I was making $386/month as an E-4......

As for the Plymouth Road Runners and '73 gas crunch, remember odd/even days? Buddy and were syphoning gas in Daly City for his '68. 8)
