Comparisons between a U20 and a R16
I was thinking of getting a U20 but like always I can never make my mind up. Just curious on the comparisons of what differences you guys felt between the 2000 and the 1600 engine. Power wise etc.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Well theres a U20 that I can get for about $300 but its frozen. Complete carbs, exhaust manifold valve cover oil pan etc. It was previously rebuilt you can still see the honing on the cylinder walls. But doing a add up on how much U20s are to rebuild would be pricy to have this one rebuilt again. But if I can free it and have it working then why not! I enjoy my 1600 with the 4spd, but was just curious if it would be a good idea to put a u20 in the car. However what makes me not want to do it is that my engine has less than 5,000 miles since the rebuild so why pull it? I cant make my mind up.

I'm really happy with my U20 with SU's. It's been a long time since I've driven a 1600, so it's hard to make a comparison, but the 2-liter has plenty of low-end grunt. It's quicker off the line than my 1.6L Miata. It really starts to pull around 3500. I haven't had it up to redline yet.
The 5-speed is great for freeway travel.
I've got a line on a set of Solexes, so I hope to report on the diffference soon!

There's 20 years between these two cars, but my 1600 5 speed was overall very nice to drive. I went from a 340 Dodge Dart to the Datsun and wasn't whining, so it must have been pretty OK. My 2000 is great but a little more rear end gearing would be nice. On paper/benchracing/off thetop of my head, I'd say an H20 or 1600 with 2000crank, 5 speed and HS6 carbs would be the hot ticket, both performance and dollar wise.
