Yes thanks. I have the fender off and plan to to cut out s small access panel on the inner fender side so I have access to weld in the replacement piece on the bottom, along with the nuts.

Ed, do you have a spot weld hole saw?

I do not to believe I have one of those. Where would I use it? the bottom lip?

Ed, you use the little holesaw when taking body parts apart at the seams for rust removal. Have you bled your brakes lately? You need to at least every few years especially if it is not getting driven much. Otherwise your expensive wheel cylinders are rusting away.

Is it ok to use 1/4 -20 instead of 1/4-28? I would like to use the black oxide stainless steel and they don't have 1/4-28 for that one. Will match my black fenders better.

The issue is originality, mostly, all but one use nuts and flat washers so thread pitch doesn't matter. The one closest to the cowl/firewall has a captured nut, which will be a 1/4-28 thread. I drilled out the thread of the captured nut, used a longer 1/4-20 truss head screw and nut and washers, accessible from the inside under the dash. FWIW Pat

For originality most people want the screw heads painted. If your car is black you can use the the black oxide and paint one 1/4-28 for the capture nut or use the 1/4-28 and paint them all.

Me I don't care and will stick with the stainless look. I might paint a set and see if I want to put them in. What I don't want is the unpainted rings under the head like Datsun did.

Take a piece of wood, drill some shallow 1/4" holes in it and then you can stand the screws up and paint the tops.

I just saw something about a "nutsert" online. it is like a rivet and a nut combined. Has anyone tried using a "nutsert" in place of the welded nut for the lower fender attachment? It would save you having the take the tacked repair piece out and in again and also save you from having to weld the nuts of the metal repair piece.
