My VQ35DE Nissan V6 swap!
Hi everyone, so I was getting ready to rebuild my carburetors on the Datsun when I realized how very expensive that is. So I just made it drive-able for the time being while I deliberated. And when I realized that I need to also rebuild the engine (smokey exhaust) and transmission (no 4th) in order to have fun driving it, I figured it wasn’t worth it (for me) to keep the 2 liter that came in my 1600 in there.
So I looked into every possible swap. Ones I’ve seen, ones I haven’t seen, anything at all. I couldn’t find a 4 cylinder that seemed worth it to me. The GM V6 seemed like a very practical swap and I was about ready to get my donor car.
BUT THEN I came across someone who swapped a VQ35DE in their roadster and I loved everything about it! I love the horsepower obviously, and keeping it in the Nissan family would be great!
So I’m about 30 minutes into my swap here and I figured I’d make it forum official so I can’t back out I may be picking up a 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe with a 6-speed tomorrow or the next day if all goes to plan.
Stock says 280hp 270lb ft! I don’t see any need to build it up further than that (for now)
I’ll keep you all updated as I go!

Re: My VQ35DE Nissan V6 swap!
As the owner of both an Infiniti G35 with a 6-speed manual and a 1600 roadster I’m super interested in seeing this swap succeed.
And yes, you have witnesses so no backing out!

Re: My VQ35DE Nissan V6 swap!
We had a 2005 G35 coupe and remember how much fun that car was to drive. To put that motor in a roadster... holy $h!t that’s going to be sick!
Looking forward to the build!

Re: My VQ35DE Nissan V6 swap!
I have a 2007 J31 Maxima with a VQ35DE but with the 6 speed CVT [Constant Variable Transmission].
Very smooth engine but no hot rod due to the trans.
Would like to see pics. of your progress.

Some inspiration, Jeff's VQ swap:

For ITB'd VQ sounds look no further than TODZILLA's roadster:

Re: My VQ35DE Nissan V6 swap!
So I bought the donor for $750. Pulled the engine, transmission, and all the wiring that I think is applicable today.

Wow, it seems to me that you stole that for only $750!
