Solex parts?

Post by JoeK »

Hey guys and gals,

I just picked up a set of solexes for my car. Now I'm trying to get together the needed parts for install. They look to be in really great shape, but are missing a few small parts, like starter bracket, one starter spring bracket and one fuel pipe inlet is broken. Anybody know where I can find these little missing parts?

And furthermore, I'm also looking for any info. Yes, any info. I basically don't know squat about what I'm getting myself into. I know I need to find some air horns and filters, or a stock air filter. I think I need a heat shield, but don't know what the stock ones look like. Alvin, the photo king, can you shoot me some pics of some solex setups? Are there any good write ups about balancing and tuning? I just need information inundation. And does anybody have a B-Cam laying about that they don't want :D

Thanks,

Joe,

This is what the heat shield looks like:

http://www.datsunroadster.com/PIC_PAGES ... 143-04.htm

Rallye has them in stock - last price was $104 and some change. Rallye has the air horns (velocity stacks) for about $240 per set. There are several aircleaner choices. Stock units are hard to find. Aftermarket units are easy to come by as Weber DCOE aircleaners. For the fuel nipple, one off of your SU can be made to work - or I have seen some for Holley carbs that look right.

Now the brackets and such can be tough. Good luck with them!!

Depends what you want the solexes for. The factory heat shield I found on ebay was not real expensive, helped a bit but they still seem to be quite sensitive to heat. Drive 'em , stop and the accelerator pumps on the bottom seems to boil the gas so when I restart and go it would bog until I pumped them a few times. I eventually devised an insulation layer under them along with header wrap to minimize that problem. However It does not look stock, but that's not my goal. Go fast is!!!!!!!

Oh yes, you gotta love that sound and the front wheel drive buzz can muffler types do take notice and give

Check this place out:

http://wolfcreekracing.com/

They rebuilt my Solex's for my Z, they have lot's of stuff for Z's and 510's, but he's good with carbs.

Anyone know where I can get the sock type filters for my velocity stacks?

Thanks

I have dealt with Todd at Wolf Creek Racing. He is very knowledgeable and will most likely have what you need.

Is that the part number for the Solex heat shield? $11 would be a steal.

Thanks for pointing me towards Wolk Creek, according to their web site, they should have all the carb parts I need. I'm thinking I might just order a rebuild kit, since I think these carbs haven't been run in 20 or years, I'd think the gaskets might be dried out, at the least the accelerator pump might need some help.

Anybody have anything to say about the mikuni manual that seems to be around?

Thanks for the great responses so far, keep 'em coming!

One thing to keep in mind - the Canadian Nissan parts system is different from the US parts system. What is in stock in one, may be NLA in the other. Now, if any of our neighbors to the north want to help with some group buys...

That part number shows up on nismoparts and says it's available. I'll go ahead and order it. If they don't have it, I won't get charged. If for some strange reason the wrong part shows up, no big deal as it'll only be like $20 after shipping.

Conversely, when I enter the part number for an entire solex setup, that does show up as NLA. Shucks
