GM V6 datsun roadster

Post by Leadpaw »

A friend had a 1968 roadster frame rotting in his backyard. He didnt even know what it was, and I nabbed it for free. Decided to mount a 3.4 liter 60 degree v6 on it from a pontiac aztek and a t5 transmission from a camaro. Had to notch the front K member and mid X member but it worked pretty well. Building headers is definitely going to be the biggest challenge here.

Alvin!

Here is Marshall's 3.4 GM V.6 install:
viewtopic.php?t=12188

He u-jointed the steering shaft and made custom headers (albeit) side-exit but it's tidy:

Awesome and inspiring to see another person has successfully attempted this conversion.I made it a goal to have a single exhaust, make it take the stock route through the X frame and clear the stock steering shaft. I compromised flow characteristics for compact design and just about barely cleared the stock steer shaft location. Lucky the oil pan has a notch big enough to take a 2in crossover tube from the right bank to the left side of the car.

Test fitted the engine on the cars old chassis. Hood clearance, header clearance look good. The transmission tunnel needed some minor trimming. Time to dissassemble the whole car.

Also added some larger exhaust cutouts on the new frames X member

I kind of love the patina the car has gotten and will be keeping it the same exterior wise.

I like your solution for the exhaust cut outs. What size pipe will you be using?

going with 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 in exhaust tube. Not looking for huge power numbers

I really like the patina on the car. Looks like a car Columbo would be cruising in. Any one remember Columbo? 8)

Ditto! Well done.

The world needs more roadsters like this one on the streets! And the guys and gals that get them there!

I remember watching Columbo. It was about the same time I was driving my first roadster.
