Water pump questions

I looked in the tech wiki, but couldn't find these answers, so...
Late style R16 water pumps are freaking expensive. Mine is so corroded from sitting 20 years that I don't think its rebuildable. The outlets are literally crumbling away.
I notice that H20 water pumps are around $30. Are there any models of H20 pumps that will work on a late R16 with the spacer? Is there a reason not to use them?
Next issue: the 2 studs in the front of the block that the pump & spacer slide onto are so corroded that they are falling apart. One is M10 and the other is M8. Is there a source for a replacement for these? Stainless would be awesome!

Metric Specialties, check website, has all metric fasteners. Various references to it in the archives.

McMaster Carr is a good source for all sorts of fasteners (and a whole lot of other stuff too).

I think you will find the H20 pump is incorrect in almost every way. Fan, pulley, belt offset everything. Ebay and some vendors will sell you a pump that only creates problems. The 68-70 pump is more expensive because it actually fits! You will want new studs. that is a good plan.

We actually rebuild them in house - the core is not a big deal. PM or email, I'm sure we can fix you up.

Make sure you use a crap load of anti-seize when you install your new studs. I believe coating them completely is recommended. Someone please correct me if this is inaccurate.

+1 oi the coating - especially since one stud goes straight into water channel. Same with thermo housing - many have been destroyed.
I remember on Linda's 1600 some years ago, when we had to destroy the pump to get it off. Impact drivers, compressded air chisels. Not a pretty sight.

+2 Anti-seize is your friend, it helps tremendously the next time around. Also good on the little 6mm screws on the back of the pumps-a very thin coat is all you need.
