Hood release cable jammed, pulled hard and it separated from housing.

Since the main release was 'trash', had to make a backup first before I could repair 'original'.

Left to right - nut, lock washer, bolt with small hole drilled all way through and larger one to accept the ferrule - right

Assembly - including bicycle cable

drill hole in fender close to clutch slave cylinder (or wherever you choose)

Push assembly through hole, tighten nut and make a loop with wire.

(Cost about $5.00)

I saw at Solvang, one owner dropped the cable down inside the fender to allow access without need a key to open the car. Avoiding drilling the bulkhead.

N ot sure I follow that one

I ran mine through an existing grommet in the firewall and dropped it just above the accelerator pedal.
What's the point of locking a convertible with exterior snaps?

I agree - same reason as providing door pulls on a convertible - ???

But please give me some credit - the release is high up inside front wheel well, invisible to normal view.

I like it. It is simple and unobtrusive. FYI I never locked my car even with the roof on because the cost of damage to get in would exceed the cost of anything inside. Lost one gearshift knob but that's all.

Some years ago someone 'broke in' to my roadster and sneaked off with a screwdriver, leaving about $300 of Dunhill Pipes in the console.

Also, I never lock console, too many people have had their consoles pried open.

Not knocking your location Peter, it's just as secure as mine, which is none to secure

Paint the loop black and it would not be easily seen in the wheelwell.

I used a throttle cable replacement kit. It comes with a couple of options for going through a hole. I put it through the firewall but I think the curve is too tight as it doesn't work. I will try taking it through the fender after testing that direction.
