Shifter pin???
Can anyone tell me the name of this part and where can I obtain one?? It’s the pin the connects the shifter to the transmission. I’m not sure if the cotter pin broke off in there or not but when I deisconneted the shifter from the transmission it just slid right out. It didn’t seem right so I think the cotter pin broke off in there. I’m not sure.
Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks
Shamus.

Re: Shifter pin???
Looks like a roll pin to me. I have a couple of transmissions on the floor. I've never really paid attention to that part. Unless someone beats me to it I'll post a pic later

Re: Shifter pin???
Check the online parts manual. You can find it as a sticky in the tech fourm. I think it's a roll pin, not a cotter pin. By looking at your picture, it doesn't look like it needs to be replaced. Might check with Nissan parts if indeed it is bad. Looks like Keith beat me to the roll pin

I believe it is called "Pin -Control Arm. Nissan part number 32849-14600
Nissan shows the paert as discontinued. Someone on the list or one of the vendors may have a used one.
You should be able to knock out the broken pin and reinstall?

Re: Shifter pin???
Thanks fellas. The pin in itself is fine., I was just wondering what was holding the roll pin in it’s place?? Should be a cotter pin of some sort?? However., that hole is awfully small for a cotter pin.
Question#1: the roll pin shoul not be sliding out freely?
Question#2: if there is a way to secure it., what should it be? A cotter pin of some kind??
Thanks. Shamus.

Re: Shifter pin???
After looking at the car parts manual.. thanks fellas.., I believe the pin I’m looking for is called the “striking pinâ€. That looks to be what keeps that “Striking Rod†in place. I’m gonna need an Act of God to find that sticking pin. Looks like I’m gonna have to get creative.

Re: Shifter pin???
Unless I am mistaken, that is a broken roll pin in there.

Re: Shifter pin???
Drive the old roll pin out and take it to an auto parts store. They will have a box full of various size roll pins to choose from. The pin probably should stick out of each end of the rod a eighth of an inch or so. Maybe Keith can look at the loose transmission he has and confirm. There should be a slight interference fit going back into the rod.

Re: Shifter pin???
From the photo it appears to be a spring pin. You can upgrade to a roll pin if you so choose. Finding one should be easy. Just punch out the broken piece with a pin punch of the appropriate size.

Re: Shifter pin???
Will do fellas. The guys at my shop will not have it nor did they even mention of such a pin. I will check the auto parts store or the machine shop. I’ll report back once I get it done. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction...

Re: Shifter pin???
it's just a roll pin, nothing special, except for dimension. length doesn't matter since you can trim it. The slot, is merely for adjusting/lining up the hole.
drive out the old, and get it sized.
